25-Group Chart System
The FDNY's traditional 25-group chart system. Firefighters typically work in a pattern of:
- 2 Day Tours (9 hours each)
- 48 hours off
- 2 Night Tours (15 hours each)
- 72 hours off
Every firefighter is assigned to one of 25 groups. The calendar shows which groups are working each day and night tour.
4-Platoon System
An alternative 4-platoon scheduling system. Firefighters work in a pattern of:
- 2 Day Tours (9 hours each)
- 2 Night Tours (15 hours each)
- 4 days off
In this system, firefighters are assigned to one of 4 platoons, with groups within each platoon sharing the same schedule.
